But that's another subject entirely
Avatar
i meant for either. mature or not
Avatar
i thijnk the brain is always maturing in some sense or another
Avatar
Well I had heard that it helps with brain elasticity
Avatar
You can say that it helps. You can say that it hurts. Either way there are like zero studies.
Avatar
Fair enough
Avatar
the "brain elasticity" thing is just a hypothesis/guess, not actually substantiated by anything than anecdotes
Avatar
i'm no expert, but i'd wager the only effect it would have is purely psychological, and have nothing to do physiologically
Avatar
in terms of tulpas
Avatar
now can you make a tulpa that is absolutely detrimental to your psychological well being? sure
Avatar
And that could be totally plausible. My point is, we really don't know.
Avatar
It's going to be physiological too, you're training your brain to pick up new habits, that's not just psychological
Avatar
i was just throwing my guess out there. obviously we don't know. why i said i'd wager
Avatar
Sorry. Lol didn't mean to come off so strong
Avatar
no, you're training your mind in new mental gymnastics, not changing how it functions
Avatar
New habits get written in your neurological code, for lack of a better term
Avatar
hypothetically
11:19 PM
then living changes your brain. Getting new memories changes your brain
Avatar
even if someone thinks tulpas are just an illusion and not really sentient, you're still enforcing new habits and ways of thinking onto the brain
11:19 PM
yes, it does
Avatar
If a crossword puzzle can effect you physiologically, then there is a decent chance that tulpas do as well
Avatar
Brain is always changing when it absorbs new information or learns new habits
11:20 PM
Tulpas are a big change to the brain, considering it is a new sentient entity
11:20 PM
I don't think it's going to be negative on the brain itself though
11:20 PM
since it's just like learning a new skill, only with a new thoughtform
11:21 PM
There are people who claim stuff like tulpas taking their dopamine and that giving them depression, I'm not too sure about that though
Avatar
sure, but you can get a brain scan, go learn something, get another brain scan, and the scan will show the exact same thing
Avatar
...well yeah
Avatar
that's what i at least meant when i said physiologically
11:22 PM
I thought you meant tulpas were just psychological and not imprinted in the brain at all
Avatar
oh, no. just that they wouldn't alter the brain's make-up/function/etc to any noticeable degree
11:24 PM
your brain would still look like it did pre-tulpa
11:26 PM
but again, hypothesis only
Avatar
[brain gets 3 lobes when you have tulpas]
Avatar
Some things I wonder about is how tulpas might affect the distribution of the type of brain matter that determines gender
11:27 PM
I doubt that would change, yet it's fairly obvious there's tulpas with a gender opposite the host/body
Avatar
Is in my case.
Avatar
and ours
11:28 PM
we're four males in female body
Avatar
mine as well
Avatar
we identify as males, yet don't really care enough to want to transition ever, even if we switched
11:29 PM
maybe that's just because our host doesn't put much stock into her gender anyway?
11:29 PM
She doesn't wear make-up or girly clothes, so it's easier to ignore
Avatar
I'm a girl but I like girls too and kinda dress like a guy, I dunno
Avatar
you do you
Avatar
I'm a guy but I have long hair and a scarf so lots of people think I'm a girl
Avatar
We're attracted to males, considering we have a "shared" boyfriend
Avatar
That is interesting. But I know i like being around girls much more than guys. And not just the obvious reason. I've always had nervous issues around older men. I dunno. That makes it sound weird but it is what it is.
Avatar
Tacio and I were kind bisexual but always preferred males
11:31 PM
Host isn't bisexual
Avatar
Aurora calls guys and girls cute on occasion so I guess she would swing both ways. Sweetie says she likes girls, and as I have a wife and dont really like men we are not really open to anything like that anyway.
Avatar
I'm pan, and my tulps bi
11:35 PM
We don't care much for gender
Avatar
Apollo and Piano were only attracted to men. Apollo got a boyfriend Lyra didn't really feel the same way about, so she just let him have his way, since she trusted he was mature enough to handle it and make good choices. We live with him now.
Avatar
[Tulpas in relation to physical pain. For us anyway, I can handle pain much better then Syfar. Does pain thresholds change with anyone else?]
Avatar
not really
Avatar
I have gotten better at disassociation and that makes pain less bad
11:37 PM
But that's not specifically because of my tulp
Avatar
I can handle some stuff Chance can't, I think
Avatar
Piano is more ticklish than everyone else, for some reason
Avatar
Could be related to mental discipline. We've all got plenty, so I'm sure Lucilyn could handle quite a bit, but if it were extreme it might only be me and Lumi.
Avatar
[Maybe thats why then. disassociation, like if we are both detached from the pain, its less.]
Avatar
He had two wisdom teeth out without being numbed. Flandre (talking to him during the process) was a lot more upset than he was.
11:38 PM
For him, not because she was experiencing the pain directly.
11:39 PM
Turns out we don't numb very well, even when they use "way more (whatever) than normal".
11:39 PM
Also, having your wisdom teeth out isn't supposed to hurt until afterward.
Avatar
My host is sorta detached from the real world, I don't think that affects pain though
Avatar
So if you all could stop complaining about it, this could be avoided for future idiots like Lumi.
Avatar
Why didn't you get the drugs?
Avatar
Pain always seems the same for us.
Avatar
He was under the impression, due to a lifetime of hearing people complain about how much it hurts, that having your wisdom teeth out was supposed to be extremely painful.
11:41 PM
Thus he didn't say/indicate how much pain he was in while having them out.
11:41 PM
We had whatever numbing stuff they used, supposedly more. But it didn't do anything.
Avatar
That sounds real bad
Avatar
We're very resistant to that stuff.
11:41 PM
Yeah, it's the worst pain we've experienced at this point in our life.
11:41 PM
But it could've been avoided (probably) if Lumi had realized it wasn't supposed to hurt so much.
11:42 PM
But everyone always complains about how bad it supposedly hurts. Apparently they were only talking about the soreness the following day or two.
Avatar
Damn
Avatar
But as I said, we've some fairly extreme pain tolerance. His body was shaking a bit, but he talked calmly to Flandre (who was much more upset for him).
Avatar
When we got an implant in our arm, we kept saying to ourselves "it won't hurt, it won't hurt" but when we actually got to it, it did hurt :[
Avatar
They put me out and took all 4 at once. One was shaped like a hook somehow and was going to come in like a tusk or something
Avatar
Mine and his may be better than Lucilyn's/etc., simply due to our mental discipline.
11:43 PM
To answer whoever's question that was.
11:43 PM
We don't plan on testing that.
11:43 PM
Ours are shaped fine, but they're way back behind the other teeth.
11:43 PM
At age 22.
11:44 PM
We only had the bottom two out, need the top ones still.
Avatar
Were you able to successfully sleep on your back?
Avatar
dentist told me i'd need mine out, told them to sod off, still have all of them, no issues
Avatar
Some things I wonder about is how tulpas might affect the distribution of the type of brain matter that determines gender Might be more of a thing for those who believe in that sort of stuff and make a big deal about it. We simply are who we are when switched, without worrying about how it "affects the brain", and there's no mixups.
Avatar
Lucky
Avatar
ironic that you say you'd prefer people not complain about it, lucilyn seemed to get kinda upset when I said mine wasn't a big deal
Avatar
We should probably move to lounge
Avatar
I doubt brain matter is contingent upon belief
Avatar
Oh yeah, that's just salt Srn. If everyone said it didn't hurt it would've been fine. Since they didn't, we're ever so slightly salty with people who it was painless for.
11:55 PM
But yes, male/female stuff is per-person in our system. We don't subscribe to all those LGBT beliefs about, well, gender identity I suppose.
